Transition Teacher

Pay scale: MPS/UPS

Contract Type: Permanent

Start date: September 2026

 

As our Transition Teacher you will work predominantly with Year 7 students who are vulnerable or struggling to make expected progress. Your core purpose will be to deliver a carefully tailored curriculum and targeted interventions that enable students to integrate into mainstream lessons and flourish across KS3.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assess baseline needs and design highly-differentiated teaching and strategies that address social communication needs and other barriers to learning.
  • Teach small groups, plan high-quality lessons and model best practice that stimulate engagement and rapid progress.
  • Create resources, schemes of work and assessment approaches that support transition into a full curriculum.
  • Monitor progress, give timely diagnostic feedback and use data to inform teaching.
  • Maintain excellent classroom management and a supportive learning environment that reflects our Catholic ethos.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, support staff, parents and external professionals to secure the best outcomes for students.

 

This role combines hands-on teaching with meaningful curriculum development. You will have professional autonomy to adapt approaches and the opportunity to make a visible difference in the lives of young people.

 

About you — the ideal candidate

We are seeking someone who is:

  • A qualified teacher with a strong belief in inclusion and high expectations for all students.
  • Experienced in planning and delivering differentiated lessons and using assessment to drive progress.
  • Confident working with vulnerable learners, including those with SEND or social communication needs.
  • Skilled at building positive relationships, with calm, effective classroom management.
  • A reflective practitioner who welcomes professional development and collaborates well across teams.
  • Passionate about pastoral care, resilience-building and helping students re-engage with school.

If you have specialist training in SEND, autism or experience supporting transition from primary to secondary, that would be a strong advantage — but we welcome applications from teachers with a proven commitment to inclusion and the drive to develop further.
