“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up…” – Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)
Young Carers at St Anne’s
Meet your Young Carer Leads:
Young carers are children and young people who help care for a family member who may be ill, disabled, experiencing mental health difficulties, or affected by substance misuse. Their responsibilities can range from practical tasks like cooking and cleaning, to emotional support and helping manage medication.
How to Identify a Young Carer
A young carer is someone who might:
- Regularly help a parent, sibling, or relative with daily tasks
- Provide emotional support to someone at home
- Miss school or social activities due to responsibilities at home
- Feel tired, worried, or overwhelmed because of their caring role
If you think your child may be a young carer, or if they’ve mentioned helping out at home in ways that go beyond what is typical for their age, please let us know. We are here to help.
Support Available
We offer both internal and external support for young carers, including:
- A safe space to talk and be heard
- Regular check-ins with Miss Baird or Mrs Simmons
- Access to local young carers services and networks
- Help with homework, attendance, and emotional wellbeing
- Opportunities to meet other young carers in a supportive environment
We want to reassure students and families that being a young carer is nothing to be embarrassed about. Many young carers show incredible resilience, compassion, and maturity. Our goal is to ensure they feel supported and understood.
The Process
If you or your child would like to speak to someone about being a young carer please contact Miss Baird, Mrs Simmons or the pastoral team at admin@stannes.academy
