Pastoral Support

At St. Anne’s we believe that students will only fulfil their academic potential if they feel secure, happy and cared for within the school environment.

It is essential for every student to feel that they are an important part of our community and can contribute to the life of the school. At St Anne’s, this is established through our SACRED Values of respect and compassion for others. Each student’s happiness is important to members of staff and to other students – it’s why pastoral care is always a priority.

Building a community involves learning to respect others and to live alongside people who hold different opinions. For some students it may be important to learn how to be more assertive, while others benefit from developing greater listening skills.

Every student is part of a tutor group and form tutors specialise in ensuring the wellbeing and progress of each student in their care is paramount. Academic progress and co-curricular programmes are closely monitored and regular, individual meetings with students take place, which offer a chance to discuss any personal issues and to resolve any problems quickly. Talking together, the tutor and students can also look at their work as a whole and set targets to improve standards of achievement.

Each year group is supported by a Head of Year who support form tutors with the pastoral care and academic achievement of pupils. Working with staff both in school and externally Heads of Year have a wealth of resources available to them to ensure that all children flourish during their time at St Anne’s. Should parents have concerns about their child’s wellbeing or academic progress they should contact the Form Tutor in the first instance and the Head of Year and pastoral team will support as required.

Operation Encompass

St Anne’s is an OPERATION ENCOMPASS school. This is a relatively new project that allows schools and Greater Manchester Police to work is effective partnership. It aims to support children who are affected by domestic violence by ensuring that their school is informed within the following 24 hours. This allows the school to support the children immediately if needed. If you have any other questions about this project, please do not hesitate to contact the school and ask for a member of our safeguarding team.

What Is It?

Operation Encompass is a scheme that will ensure that we can better support any child where a domestic incident has been reported to Police from their home.

Following a domestic incident, the Police will telephone a nominated member of staff at the school to notify us that an incident has taken place. This will ensure that we are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe, supported and listen to.

Each school has a member of staff called the designated Safeguarding lead who is trained to recognise when a child needs support. St Annes has two; Miss Rees and Mr Ostmeier.

The initiative is being rolled out across all Greater Manchester schools area by area. It is a multi-agency project that includes the Police, local schools and the Council. It has been successfully implemented in other parts of the country and has helped schools and parents to help children deal with the impact that domestic abuse in the home can have on them.

We are committed to working in partnership with local relevant organisations to safeguard and protect children in Stockport and to provide the best possible care and support for our students.
